I've always loved our Cover Love pages at Young Adultica's magazine. Has a book ever intrigued me because of its cover even when the art ended up having nothing to do with the plot? Of course. So I'm always a sucker for new cover art for old favorites. Here are three updates that drew me into previous reads:
Nancy Drew series
by Carolyn Keene
The classic cover has a timeless, vintage appeal, but these new art deco redos are eye-catching enough to place Nancy Drew #2 The Hidden Staircase on my to-read list. I love that this update keeps the feel of a bygone era.
Gallagher Girls series
by Ally Carter
The plaid spy-school covers of old are the base for the new boldly graphic offerings; the design rework is so strong because it keeps a nod to its original. And the new art is definitely speaking to me! It strikes the same cord as a retro Bond opening or the 90s Masterpiece Mystery intro--they all get me in the mood for some good old-fashioned sneaking around.
The Books of Bayern
by Shannon Hale
A bit more than five years after the close of this series, its time for a revisit. Author Hale posted the new covers, announcing their arrival next summer! I love the sketch lines and magic-wielding heroines at their center. These Grimm-inspired tales have a pretty magical new look!
